Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are crucial to the success of our organization. By leveraging the expertise of our volunteers we can continue to keep our operating expenses low and direct every available dollar to our participant savings programs (IDAs). If you have skills or interest in any of the following areas, please contact us via e-mail info@assetbuilderscdc.org or phone (312)-322-3000.
- Financial Literacy Facilitators – Each financial literacy course that an IDA participant attends is facilitated by a volunteer. We have the entire curriculum and will train you to facilitate. You simply attend one, four-hour training session and then select which financial literacy class you would like to lead. Class location is determined by the location of the IDA program.
- Newsletter Authors – We publish a regular newsletter that is sent to our current and past IDA participants. The newsletter includes articles about being financially savvy, success stories from IDA graduates, and resources for family members, etc. To volunteer for the newsletter you simply attend a single, one-hour training session. After that all work can be done via email and you can work from home or wherever you choose. Also we need newsletter volunteers who can interview IDA participants and write their success stories to be published as an encouragement to current participants.
- Media Outreach Volunteers – Asset Builders is a growing organization and in order to continue that growth we need to create more awareness. A media outreach volunteer will utilize the television, radio, newspaper, and other media in an effort to spread the word about Asset Builders. The volunteer will contact local media, write press releases, interview IDA participants, try to create ties with media sources, etc. To volunteer you simply need to attend a single, one-hour training session. After that majority of the work can be done via email and you can work from home.
- Participant Mentor – Become directly involved in the life of another by becoming a mentor to an IDA participant. As a mentor you will meet with and call your mentee to encourage and energize him or her as well as share any financial tips that you have learned. You will be given the opportunity to select which IDA participant you would like to mentor as a way to match your skills and interests with those of the participant. For example, if you are familiar with being a business owner you might choose to mentor a participant who is working toward opening their own business. If you are an educator you might prefer to work with a participant who is pursuing an advanced degree. This volunteer opportunity requires you meet with the participant once a month for 12 months.
- Technical Assistance – We need volunteers who can keep our systems running smoothly, install software and hardware, help maintain our website and other related technical help. In addition, we are always accepting donations for somewhat used hardware and software to support us in our efforts.
- Administrative Support – We need volunteers who can help keep us organized. If you have office skills that you can put to work on our behalf, we would love to hear from you. Commitment times can vary.
- Data evaluation – Asset Builders has several years worth of IDA program data that we would like to have analyzed. If your organization or university has expertise and resources in this area, please contact us.
- Alumni Club Speaker - The alumni club is a place where participants can share information, resources and generally support each other. If you have skills or information that would be beneficial to the participants, we would like to discuss your attending an alumni club meeting to share your insight and experience.
- Board Members – If you are a leader in your community and would like to contribute to the growth of our organization we would like to speak with you about becoming a member of our Board. As a Board Member, we hope you will spread the message of Asset Builders to increase community awareness. This is a vital tool to the success of our organization.
